WAM Award FIRST = RECORDING Contract
 
 
Open to all able pianists from, any country and anywhere in the UK 
under 18 years class 'A' ------  over class 'B' 
 
Entries welcome from:  Individuals - Schools - Colleges  
   
An opportunity to learn the set new music of a living composer. 
Then, through artistic interpretation and performance, speak musically to adjudicators.

Entry to the competition is free. Your only cost is for the set music. This has a free CD of the composer playing,  to introduce the music 
 
Initially, when you have mastered the set music you enter the Preliminary Eliminating Stage (PES) 
 
For the PES send a tape (or other) of your performance to the composer who, with others, will assess your interpretation of the music to choose the semi-finalist's.

  As a living memorial to a great artist, this Music Building in the 
city of Oxford, is ideal for music-making.  The Auditorium has 
excellent lively acoustics and Rehearsal Rooms are available.
 
 
How to get there
 
The Jacqueline du Pré Music Building is in the grounds of St Hilda's College, at the end of Cowley Place, off, The Plain, roundabout on the East side of the city centre. 
 
Parking: pay-and display parking may be available in St Clements public car park.  Also, there are limited spaces in S Hilda's College. 
 
By Car: to enter Oxford from the East side, leave the A40, taking the A420, London Road, leading to, Headington Road, St Clements, then, The Plain, roundabout for Cowley Place. 
 
Bus:  
  • The Oxford Express (X90) to and from London, fast frequent 24 hour service, turn up and go.  Pay the coach driver cash or, purchase in advance with your credit card by phone 01865 785 400 and internet at www.oxfordbus.co.uk/buytickets.html    When taking this bus from Victoria Coach Station, Victoria, Marble Arch or Baker Street, get off at St Clements and walk towards Oxford to, The Plain, roundabout then, into Cowley Road. 
     
  • The Airline coach to and from Heathrow airport, frequent (every 30 minutes) 24 hour service, turn up and go.  Pay the coach driver cash, euros, dollars or, purchase in advance with your credit card by phone 01865 785 400 and internet at www.theairline.info. When taking this bus from either, Heathrow central bus station (bay 10) or, Heathrow terminal four (bay 15), get off at St Clements and walk towards Oxford to, The Plain, roundabout then, into Cowley Road. 
     
  • The Airline coach to and from Gatwick airport, frequent (hourly) 24 hour service, turn up and go.  Pay the coach driver cash, Euros, Dollars or, purchase in advance with your credit card by phone 01865 785 400 and internet at www.theairline.info. When taking this bus from either, Gatwick south terminal coach station (bay 8) or, Gatwick north terminal (bay 4), get off at St Clements and walk towards Oxford to, The Plain, roundabout then, into Cowley Road.  
 
Train:  from London, Paddington main line station two trains an hour. For other direct or connecting services to Oxford phone 0845 748 4950 or go to www.nationalrail.co.uk. Upon arrival at Oxford rail station go by bus or taxi to Cowley Place.
